Syllabus for examination

Reading

Reading
Standard One had a reading test from a narrative in monosyllables.
Standard Four were required to read a short paragraph from an advanced reading book.
Standard Six read a paragraph from a newspaper or other modern narrative.

 

Writing
Standard One formed capital and small letters on the blackboard or a slate.
Standard Four wrote a sentence dictated from an advanced reading book.
Standard Six had a paragraph dictated from a newspaper or book.

Mathbook
Arithmetic
Standard One pupils formed the numbers 1-20 on the blackboard or a slate and had to add and subtract up to 10 orally.
The other standards required sums in addition, subtraction and multiplication in number, weights, measures and money.


Grammar, geography, history, drawing and singing were added to the curriculum.


A special feature of the school was May Devotions consisting of a daily assembly, a simple instruction or story and a traditional May hymn.
